This morning I attended the academy and purchased an escargot. As I stepped outside the shop, I looked in the bag and noticed the pastry was quite burnt. I then looked at the escargots displayed in the side outlet and saw that those on display were a lovely golden colour, which highlighted the difference even more clearly. I returned to the counter and politely explained that the one I had just been given was burnt and asked whether I could exchange it for one of the non burnt looking ones on display. I was told I would need to go back inside, so I did. However, once inside, staff flatly refused both a refund and an exchange, insisting that the escargot was “fine.” Unfortunately, when pastry is burnt it leaves quite a bitter taste, and I did not feel comfortable eating it. What disappointed me most was that despite refusing to replace or refund the burnt item, staff were quite happy for me to purchase a second escargot immediately afterwards from the side outlet. I even commented at the time that it felt unfair to expect a customer to simply accept a burnt product while still encouraging another purchase. I found the entire experience very disappointing and felt completely ripped off. More importantly, I felt the customer service was dismissive and lacking basic care for the customer experience. I wanted to provide this feedback as I believe customers should reasonably expect food to be of acceptable quality and concerns to be handled respectfully and fairly. Shame I didn’t take photos to show the clear difference as I was driving quite a distance! Food: 1 Service: 1
