Our go-to for a night out at a quality tasty restaurant
I'll preface this by saying I was expecting an Italian food joint, as in choices of pasta. It was  Valentine's day and was looking at Yelp for Italian restaurants in Boulder since I do not live in the town. The girlfriend saw Basta, and said she enjoyed it, so we went. It was Valentine's day and we didn't have a reservation, so we showed up at 5pm (right after they opened). We were able to get a table immediately which was great. First off, I don't think I would have found the place if Google maps didn't take me directly to it. It is literally in the middle of condo buildings, and does not face the street. You have to drive through the condo parking area to get to it. Second, the menu is very small and hard to decode. Is a "plate" a full plate or a small plate (like is very common in Spain). What is a 'tini? The whole right side of the menu is for take out or some weird buffet? style with a cost per person for food and drinks. There was little information on the menu, and even less explaination by the staff The only real pasta was lasagna for like $26, which seems rather high. There are only 3 or 4 supper plates, with chicken, duck, or lamb, and most are $35+ a plate. So that leaves pizza as a bulk of the dinner there, as there are several choices at more reasonable prices. I noticed that many of the guests were in the same boat and ordered pizzas as well. I ordered one and it was really delicious! The girlfriend enjoyed hers as well. It was cooked well, and had great flavor. I was also surprised because instead of crushed red pepper and parmesan cheese that most pizza joints supply, they brought out a little dropper. The dropper was a mix of things, but the chili in it added heat. I had never used something like this on a pizza, but as a spice lover, I had to. It did not add a lot of spice, but added a little and some extra flavor. I actually enjoyed it. Would go again because the pizza was great, but if you don't want pizza, be prepared for more of a $$$ cost.
Excellent food and service. I was met at the door by the hostess who opened the door and welcomed me with a warm smile. I chose to eat at the bar as I was dining alone. Rober, the mixologist, was friendly, helpful and interesting as we talked about the cocktails he was crafting. He had a deft hand and an impressive grasp of the various components he was using. Other staff were attentive to guests and friendly as well. A hidden gem that is worth the search.
