Amazing food. We were a bit late, so they already closed the kitchen, but they took our order anyway. Thank you. Atmosphere is very pleasant, however, I would do something more fancier inside with the level of their food.Food: 5/5  |  Service: 4/5  |  Atmosphere: 4/5 …More

We took the C train from our hotel in the Theatre District to the Canal Street station. A quick right and a left and we were at Batard. The room is gorgeous, with bas-relief wall finishing. It's lovely, and the tables are well spaced. Unfortunately, it's loud. There's nothing to absorb sound, and a loud table across the room was pretty loud at our table as well. However, that didn't detract from the food. The food was absolutely perfect. Batard is Prix Fixe; choose 2 or 3 courses and pay a flat price ($79 or $89). What's unusual is the selection; you can choose 3 starters, or a main and 2 desserts, or anything but 3 mains. That's a pretty cool way to customize a menu. The wine list is heavy on French bottles from well chosen producers. We selected a premier cru white burg; the somm knew that the vintage was sold out and recommended a similar wine (at a similar price point) that fit the bill well. We started with salmon rillettes and seasonal risotto with goat cheese. The salmon was dill heavy (the way we like it) and served with house made potato chips. Simple, but delicious. The risotto was the star of the first course; the rice was perfectly done, and the pickled carrot ribbons cut the lusciousness of the chèvre perfectly. The duck was tender, cooked to medium rare, with properly crispy skin. The roasted figs were a great accompaniment. The quail was served two ways; a roasted thigh with crispy skin, and a prosciutto wrapped sausage made from the breast, heavily seasoned with sage. An outstanding early fall dish. Desserts were lovely; a pear galette with a house made crust, and a manchego cheesecake unlike any cheesecake we've had before. Service was professional and attentive, but not overly so. The meal was coursed well, and we didn't feel rushed. $360 with food, wine, tip. Highly recommended for a great French meal in Tribeca!

Made a reservation for Batard on Saturday in NYC. When I showed up, the host said they would not honor the reservation and would not seat me because the reservation was made same-day.  Terrible customer service, appalling behavior, in addition to planning incompetence.
