The pancakes were good.
Great service, good food.
Bertha's is a quintessential diner experience visited by families, couples and those in search for a hangover cure. Sandwiched between the North Park theatre and 5 Venoms Tattoo Studio, Bertha's remains a staple in the Hertel Ave landscape, steadfast in serving some of the best comfort food in the area. We arrived Saturday afternoon on one of the hottest days in July and admittedly, fell into the "those searching for a hangover cure" category. The fans hummed overhead as the hot air rolled around the room and the sound of "September" by Hall and Oates greeted us. We sat ourselves in a booth. We ordered the cinnamon roll Belgian waffles with strawberries on top, chicken and waffles and the "sitting pretty" (two eggs grilled into bread with cheese on top and home fries served on the side). The fried chicken had a perfect crunch, waffles were fluffy and decadent, home fries were done perfectly. There was no shortage of hot coffee and good conversation. Our waitress has been with Bertha's for 16 years and shared with us the history of the neighborhood, the changing of storefronts and how Bertha's remained perdurable throughout the years. If you're searching for classically good diner food and bits of nostalgia, mosey on over to Bertha's and grab yourself a booth seat and some waffles.
