My husband and I showed up at 4:30 PM and were seated at the bar. We placed our order as usual, and asked the server if we could please order the Tekka Maki roll with seaweed outside, and our nigiri with no wasabi if it was possible. We were not demanding at all, just asking if this was something they were able to do.
The owner Billy obviously took extreme offense to this request, as he showed up at the bar after our order came out and yelled at us for bringing our bottled waters into the establishment. I told him I meant no offense, and offered him the bottles to throw out - which he rudely snatched out of my hand and accused me of being rude. He told me and my husband that if we didn't like how he made sushi, we should leave. He stated that he was offended at our request to modify his sushi, and that we were rude to his staff. (This is not true, we even complimented our server on her tattoos and small talked with her).
At this point, it was obvious that it wasn't about the drinks, it was about our requests. I was apologetic, and told him that we didn't mean offense, and he told us that "no man like you (pointing at my husband - a Hispanic man) is going to tell me how to make my sushi." Even though we were in the middle of eating, he then told us we should leave saying "get out" at the top of his voice and made us get up in the middle of our meals to exit the restaurant. We couldn't even stay to take out a tip for our server as he was yelling at us and rushing us out.
It was extremely embarrassing to be publicly yelled at and berated like we were children by the owner of the establishment. We travel for work and frequent fine dining establishments - this is the absolute worst we have been treated by any restaurant.
