Many guests point out that waiters serve mouthwatering scallops, prawns and salads here. Try good key lime pie, waffles and gâteau. It might be cool to try delicious beer, wine or bourbon. A lot of visitors order great coffee.

This was our first visit here. We arrived as they were opening for dinner and the dining room was softly lite and had a hipster romantic feel. The decor is a collection of fun items to find, from the commercial mixer beater lights  to the Van Halen like ceiling pattern above the bar. Our waitress, Kate, was always around when we needed, and full of information and patience as we explored our menu options. We decided that we were going to order a mixture of small and large plates dishes, to get a good variety. We started off with three small plates specials The tomato and fennel soup was rich and had a cream swirl, which really lifted the flavor. The Arancini were cooked perfectly and the spicy sauce really made that dish. Lastly, the toast of the day had this delicious corn purée with a lite salad mixture and the pickled onions added the perfect acidic balance that made this one my favorite. Next, we ordered from the large plate menu, the beef on wick tacos. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm a Buffalonian so, why not. I was expecting good, but not this good. Although an unusual combination, this worked. I think the creamy horseradish sauce just fused that taco and beef on wick marriage. Finally, we had to leave room for dessert, so we ordered a slice of the orange honey cake with juniper buttercream frosting. Wow, this cake brought me back to something one of my aunts made when I was a kid. It was dense and bright  and delicious. I wish it was on the menu all of the time! It's restaurants like this that solidify my belief that you should never have to go to a chain restaurant in Western New York. The creativity and elevation of food combinations, along with reasonable prices, great atmosphere and professional staff, show why this restaurant has the great reputation that it does.  I'm just sorry we hadn't come here sooner!
Black Thorn is one of my go-tos in South Buffalo. Everything on the menu is great so you can never go wrong. Great little joint to get dinner and some beers.
When you think of the restaurant  name: Black Iron Bystro, what comes to mind? Maybe a steak house? Maybe rustic cuisine? Well you would be wrong.   The menu at the black iron Bystro is an eclectic bleak of foods from around the world.  From snails, veal, to pork belly, and lo mein.  This is a restaurant for the more adventurous eater. We started off with the jerk shrimp nachos.  If you are only going to order one thing off the menu, let it be this.  The shrimp were marinated so they didn't have that rubbery taste that most shrimp tend to have after be cooked.  The sauce on the nachos made us both fight for the last chip to dip. The sweet and spicy cheese really complemented the house made chips perfectly! We went here to celebrate a special occasion.  The food was really delicious ! I ordered the pork belly, because, well, pork belly.  The cook on the pork belly was perfect and it melted in your mouth.  My dish was served with polenta fries, which had the right amount of crisp and not overly greasy.   My husband had the veal, his came  out really underdone, but the server apologized and had it recooked. By the end there was nothing to take home.   Overall it was a good experience.  But I do t think this would be a place I would frequent on a regular basis.  Our bill came to a little over $150 with drinks and dessert.  So, be ready to spend some money if you do go.   I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions or just to try a new cuisine!
