My girlfriend and I went to Boulud Sud in October and were blown away by our experience! The atmosphere was great, the service was perfect, but the food was what got us. I know they brought on a new chef a few weeks ago, and he has made quite the difference... We ordered a few different apps and split a main course (Sea Bass) and it was some of the best food I've ever had. We are big foodys in NYC and agreed that this was one of the best meals we've had in a long time. I strongly suggest everyone go try out Boulud Sud now that they have a new executive chef under Daniel!
Reminded me of the 1990s.   Like airplane food in a way; business class from the 1990s. All of the food and service is great but missing something. I haven't had someone to push the expensive bottled water like that since 1996! It's a great place with solid food and good service but impersonal like airplane business class in the past. It's hard to put my finger on it but only choice was próx fixe when we went but every other item had a supplement!  Just call it a la carte then. Servers pushing the Dover sole and bubbly water just really annoy me. Just charge more money over all rather than "nickel and dimeing"me with paid bubbly water. The world has changed and they should just accept it.
Even though I was order challenged on this visit I still love Boulud Sud. You can have the chefs food all over the city but this is a much fancier place for a nice night out. The Mediterranean food reminded me of trips to Turkey and the open restaurant is super inviting. The cons here are that a glass of wine is $20+ for just ok wine and my last meal there was pretty fishy. I would stay away from the lemon and calamari pasta. Everything else we have had is amazing! Great for anniversaries!
