Very good location. Very nice views. Good traditional food and historic decoration.
Very traditional, very Norwegian. The place your guests from abroad would expect to be for a Norwegian dinner! It’s not cheap but cheap is not the reason you’ve traveled to Norway... right?
Had a Norwegian dinner at Bryggeloftet & Stuene the other night. It was a little pricey but totally worth it.To start, we decided to try the Whale Capraccio (139 NOK). It was extremely tender but had a few strings of tendons in it. It tastes a little like smoked salmon but with a stronger flavour profile. The carpaccio was complimented with a white horseradish cream sauce and some vinegared red onions.We also had the Bergen Fish Soup (115 NOK) which was rich, creamy and extremely flavorful. I would say it's the best fish soup I've ever had with lots of fish dumplings, shrimps, caramelized onions, carrots and celery to give it flavour.For mains, we had a kilogram of Steamed Mussels in White Wine Cream Sauce (250 NOK). The mussels were really meaty and had a nice fresh sea sweetness. The texture of the meat was amazing - almost fluffy with no strings. The sauce that went with it was so good I started drinking it up with a spoon. The fish comes with a good serving of fries but since there are so many mussels, I was pretty stuffed to eat more starches.We also tried the Fried Wolfish, also known as Atlantic catfish (295 NOK) with celery roots and haricot greens served with a white wine sauce. The fish had a nice firm texture and the sauce was creamy and buttery. The veggies were fresh and crispy.Finally, we had the Norwegian Dried Cod (295 NOK) cooked with potatoes, onions and garlic in a yummy tomato sauce. The cod did taste dry but the tomato sauce helped to rehydrate it a bit. The addition of kalamata olives was an brilliant addition to the dish.Bryggeloftet&Stuene is an absolute gem as clearly indicated by the number of locals eating there on a weeknight. Highly recommended.
