This was really overrated. The menu needs a big update - it reminds me of old standard fancy restaurants that were good 20 years ago and haven't changed since. The service was great, however. We ordered the mole sampler platter and were very underwhelmed - the two pipián moles and white mole lacked flavor and while the mole poblano was good, it was just standard. The chicken was dry. We also got the salmon in tamarind sauce; the sauce was pretty heavy handed and the salmon a bit overcooked. The only good entree was the lengua (beef tongue) - I would return for that dish only. The sopa azteca and salmon salad were also tasty.Skip the desserts, they were really disappointing. Too sweet and frankly, something you'd find in...a bad diner? Of that quality. Overall, the dishes lacked a finesse that you'd expect in a place of this supposed caliber. Even the agua de maracuya was far too sweet. This place needs innovation (and yes, still possible to do while retaining traditions) if they want to keep up with the gastronomical scene in Puebla - there are far better options.
The food was delicious and the service was wonderful
Wonderful hotel with a great complementary breakfast each morning. Rooms were always clean, wi-fi was powerful, and the overall aestheics were lovely. It was also nice to be slightly out of the city center but a short walk from the action. This translates to larger rooms and a more relaxed atmosphere near a cinema/shopping mall. We stayed in June 2015 for a few days, and it was the best stretch of our multi-week trip, hotel-wise.  We got stuck in a hotel in Cholula without a way back to the DF (the three of us had too much luggage to take the bus), and we actually ended up getting a ride from the hotel in Cholula back to Casareyna, where they were willing to arrange a ride back to our hotel in the DF. So they continued to be helpful even after we were no longer officially guests! Highly recommend!
