My husband and I went in September of 2019 and they had one of the best Cuban sandwiches I've ever had. This is especially important because we're from Miami and I'm half Cuban. I loved their sandwiches, we went back multiple times during our stay! It's a real gem and one of the things I miss about Reykjavik!
I asked for the Gringo sandwich and specifically asked the waitress to make it vegan, like the menu said. I then asked about the ingredients but the waitress was struggling a lot to pronounce the names of the menu items and was quite awkward about it. I just wanted to make sure that the dressing was vegan as well. So I repeated that I just wanted the vegan option and sat down. Later the sandwich came, and it did not taste good. I wondered why it was so bad, it was way too salty and it had an unfamiliar taste. My boyfriend saw it and was convinced it wasn't vegan so I went to the waitress again and asked if it really was vegan. She was convinced that it was, but I kept insisting that she checked. She asked the chef which said that it wasn't vegan and explained to her that she needed to specify if she wanted to make a vegan version of the Gringo sandwich (something that was very clear to me after having looked at the menu for a few seconds). I got my money back and then I needed to hurry home to puke out the bites that I took, as I am very allergic. The waitress came running after me and stopped me out on the street. She wanted to point out that there was a lot of cheese on a part of the sandwich that I didn't eat (which was super weird, I just wanted to go home without being bothered). There seems to be a lot of miscommunication within the staff. The waitress wasn't rude, she was just not very good at her job.
