We made reservations for my birthday which was accepted. When we walked over it was closed but Yelp still showed opened. No take out though which is what other restaurants were doing. We chose La Choza who had take out! They were wonderful and we are glad they stayed open to assist us. Thank You for all you do. Cafe Sonder was a huge disappointment. Your community has always supported you.

The restaurant was decent walking distance from where I was staying for the night and it was rated pretty highly. I figured it would be worth the walk, passing other restaurants and bars on the way. The place looked good from the outside, kind of like a retro, dinerish look but with a kind of modern hippie-ish bent. The menu too has that same vibe, upscale-ish diner food. It reminded me of a modern, New Mexico version of an old school dinner: a mix of items, pie case, and even Greek food. If you can picture an old school NY diner, the kind run by a Greek family that's what Cafe Sonder reminded me of. For some reason, I was jonesing for a steak but still wanted some more New Mexico cuisine so I got the Steak and Enchiladas, with Christmas chile. You ever hear the phrase 'don't order steak outside of a steak house?' Yeah, I should have heeded that advice. The steak was ok, I asked for medium rare, but it was pretty flavorless. I got up to use the bathroom to pass by the pastry case and saw they had Key Lime Pie. I fell for the diner trap again, pastries look great in the case but usually not so good in the face. There wasn't that initial tartness that Key Limes usually get. I was thinking I probably could have eaten closer to my motel or even at the restaurant there and saved myself the trip.
