We spent two weeks of vacation in this great hotel in August 2023 and were able to really enjoy our time there. A highlight is the large saltwater pool, which is ideal for swimming. It was almost always very quiet around the pool and it was never a problem getting a lounger. The parasols on each lounger are very practical, although a bit small. There are almost enough editions. We had half board for two weeks and were generally satisfied with the food. Over time, however, we began to miss a bit of variety both at breakfast and at the evening buffet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. However, we noticed that the catering area was understaffed and that the bar seemed quite stressed at times. The rooms are large with great sea views. Our bathroom was a bit small in comparison and a bit old. The mini fridge that can be used in the room is very practical. What's generally nice is that the hotel is very quiet and relaxing. During our two weeks, we would have liked a little more entertainment in the evenings, as the interior of the bar is not very comfortable and there was only an evening entertainment program in the form of a dance show once a week. We deliberately chose the quiet location of the hotel and were very satisfied with it. When booking the hotel, you should note that due to the location, having your own rental car is very useful. The Caloura Hotel Resort is located in the southern center of the Azores island of São Miguel, directly on a steep stretch of coastline with a fantastic view of the sea. The well-kept hotel complex has 80 rooms and suites, all with sea views. The double rooms have a double bed, a chaise lounge, a desk and a flat-screen TV. A furnished terrace and a bathroom with single washbasin, shower/bathtub combination and toilet complete the facilities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served buffet style in the hotel restaurant Barrocas do Mar. The local, rather hearty, selection of dishes is of good quality. The service is very friendly and helpful. The very clean outdoor pool with a length of 50 meters is perfect for swimming laps and is also used for diving courses due to its depth of 3.5 meters. Overall, the Caloura Hotel is a good choice for exploring the main island of the Azores due to its location and offers enough peace and quiet to relax between sightseeing.
