One of my favorite places in Florence, if not the world. One of those old places that's filled with history and culture. I discovered it 30+ years ago, on my first trip to Florence and it hasn't changed a bit since then. I hope it never does. We go there every morning for breakfast; cappuccino, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and a "pizzette", fresh from the oven. Love this place. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Visited in March 2013 - On Via dei Tavolini, Cantinetta dei Verrazzano combines bakery, wine bar, and café. One entrance greets you with a glass counter stacked with fresh focacce, pastries, and breads, baked on-site in the forno at the back. A second room offers marble-topped tables beside a charcuterie kitchen and shelves of Castello di Verrazzano wines. At lunchtime, Florentines streamed in for takeaway while I waited for a table. The crostini selezione mixed cured meats with thoughtful garnishes (7.5/10), while a salumi di cinghiale plate showed firmer, gamier flavours (7/10). Dessert was the standout - a pear and dark chocolate tart with pistachio: perfectly judged and unforgettable (10/10). Espresso from the vintage machine closed the meal on a bold, well-balanced note.
