I loved the fish tacos but they can be a bit pricy for a person who likes to eat more than 2.
This spot hidden on Telegraph in Oakland is a great place to grab dinner with friends. I really enjoyed the fish tacos. The carnitas taco was just ok. Additionaly my party had chips and guac and salsa and Al pastor tacos which were all great. The agua frescas here are tasty - not too sweet. They also serve beer. I'll be back soon to try a sandwich!
Cholita Linda is truly an experience. A must-try in the Greater Oakland Area. I first stumbled across Cholita Linda on my way to another spot for dinner, but the long line outside caught my eye. I knew I had to come back, and it wasn't long until I found myself here for dinner with a couple friends. We arrived a bit before 6pm on a Friday and that was right on time to beat the dinner wave, which really started to appear around 7pm. At a glance, the menu seems small, but literally everything on the menu looks/sounds good. After much deliberation, I ordered 3 Tacos (~$3.50 each): Baja Fish, Carne Asada, and Pollo al Pastor. I also got a Mango Passionfruit Agua Fresca (~$3.50). We decided to share a few appetizers including Tostones con Picadillo (~$6), 5-piece Plantains (~$4), and Chips & Guacamole (~$5). Once you pay and grab a table, your food is brought out for you. Ours was brought out in waves. The agua fresca was super delicious and refreshing. I wish they offered refills on it (at least one, come on)! The plantains were fried to perfection and were so addicting. How do they expect anyone to possibly stop at 5!? They're so addicting that I actually don't recommend sharing them like we did. The tostones con picadillo were surprisingly great. The tostones were topped with a mixture of seasoned beef and cotija cheese. The chips & guacamole was the only disappoint out of the three appetizers we shared. First off, there were way too many chips and not enough guacamole. The ratio was just off. Additionally, the guacamole was just not that good. It wasn't authentic and didn't have the many herbs, seasonings, and vegetables a typical, good guacamole would have. Now onto the tacos! The tacos were all great. My favorite was the baja fish taco. What I found interesting (and wasn't too fond of) was the fact that most of the tacos are topped the exact same way - with salsa roja, cabbage slaw, and baja crema. I would have liked to get a different variety of flavors with each taco. To end a great meal, we decided to split the Maizena de Coco (~$3.50). This dessert is a smooth coconut pudding topped with a mango-passionfruit sauce. The dessert was light and creamy enough where it just changed our palettes without putting us over the top and the right size where it can be split among people who are already pretty full. All in all, Cholita Linda was a solid dinner spot. I enjoyed just about everything we ordered. The ambiance was friendly and colors were vibrant. This would be an awesome date spot or a great dinner with friends. I would highly recommend checking out Cholita Linda if you haven't yet!
