I've been here twice.
On Victoria St in Whitby.
Both times the service was bad.
Waitress was cold.
Totally ignored me, and when she did serve me, again was cold.
She made me feel in welcomed.
But ha I guess the owner of this place doesn't really can.
That's a shame, because this place is a great place to come to.
Maybe you need to hire better staff.
But as a customer, I don't matter.
I hope this covid doesn't make you close your door.
I used to go regularly here, but the service has gone so downhill, and not solely because of the waitresses that try to keep this place going. On some evenings the place is horribly understaffed, and from experience, there has been so many orders that came out the way we didnt like it that we just stopped going here. When you ask for a schooner of beer and get two glasses because no one is there to do dishes, and then wait for over an hour and a half for wings and burgers, yet some came out cold, then yes, something has to change. Not the place for me personally.
Last year, a good friend and I spent some time in this part of Whitby. We were at Winners and IKEA to shop and chat. We ended up going to a restaurant five minutes away for dinner. I noticed Chuck's Roadhouse at the time and have flagged it ever since. Yesterday, I was in the area. I stopped by Winners to shop and then realized that I should get some lunch at 3 pm! I saw Chuck's staring right at me and headed over there. I have only been to the Chuck's in Oakville. I had a great experience that I thought I'd give this location a try. I walked in and stood there for a minute. A man came over, said hi, and said that he'd be right back. I would say that it was 75% busy in this eatery. It's not unusual, as the Masters tournament, Blue Jays-Rays game, and Capitals-Hurricanes playoff game were all happening. I told him to take his time. Yep, I'm that patient. I don't know where I get it from, but it does come in handy. He came back probably a good three minutes later. By that time, I got decent photos of the Harley motorcycle in front of me, which is Chuck's signature look. I also loved how crisp the big TV screen was in the bar. The dining area looked spacious. He asked whether I wanted the bar or dining area. I told him that it didn't matter. I was hungry. I got the bar area, at a spacious table with high chairs with back support. I had two servers help me out. One was working the bar and the other was the man who seated me. I got a Diet Coke and it came quickly with a lime wedge. I noticed that there was a puddle on my cardboard coaster already. Interesting. I moved it around the table. More puddles. I then realized that my plastic tumbler had a crack in it. I still drank from it, conducting a science experiment on how the rate that the leakage was happening. By nearly the end of my meal, the entire cardboard coaster was soaked. I placed my order. I got the sirloin and lobster tail. It goes for $20 and is by far the best deal on the menu. It comes with corn on the cob and your choice of side. I went with a house salad with French dressing instead of fries. Moments later, my meal came. I was hungry and ready to dive in. The sirloin was tough to slice through. I couldn't tell whether my knife was dull or if the sirloin was plain tough. I ordered it medium well. It was closer to medium. I am not all that picky as long as it's not rare. The seasoning was on point. Put garlic on my steak and I'm happy. I love the lobster tail here. It comes with clarified butter that is so flavourful. I dunked everything in the clarified butter. The lobster tail was tender and juicy. It definitely went into the clarified butter. Morsels of steak? Into the clarified butter pool, you go. Corn on the cob? Yep, I'm dunking it into the magical golden goodness pool. My fork with nothing on it? Yes, I even dunked my fork in so I could have more clarified butter. I probably need a session or two of professional help on my clarified butter addiction. If I could bottle the clarified butter and take it home with me, I would have. My salad was fresh and crisp. I am not big on croutons in my salad. I've always been that way, so I put them off to the side. The salad dressing was poured on top. If you prefer to add it yourself, you'll need to ask to have it on the side. The guy who seated me asked if he could clear my plate. Yes, he could. I let him know about my leaky glass of Diet Coke. He insisted on getting me a new one, which I appreciated. I said to him that as long as the tumbler is disposed of, that's all I was concerned about. We can't have it continue to be used. This place accepts all credit and debit payment methods. You can also use cash. It has that portable payment machine. It worked well. The washrooms are on the right when you first walk into the restaurant. I couldn't tell at first and nearly ended up going into the staff kitchen area. Luckily, I got some help from a helpful staff member. The women's washroom has an extremely sticky floor. It was a turnoff. I was happy to be able to leave without leaving my shoes stuck there. My experience was okay. It wasn't stellar. It wasn't horrible. It definitely could use some improvement. (130)
