The food is decent. Better than most Mexican places in the area, but that bar isn't very high. The prices are reasonable, and the service is good. The chips they bring out to all the tables are virtually always fresh/hot, which is nice.
Chuy's has a lovely, bright decor inside and the wait staff was fast and attentive. We were given chips & salsa and got our drink order right away. The chips are wonderful. I would buy (just) those again. The salsa was not bad - definitely a cut above grocery store brands. And if that had been our entire experience, I might have rated this four stars. Unfortunately, this was the pinnacle of the evening. I got the taco & enchilada combo and my wife got cheese enchiladas. We didn't substitute anything from the standard plate, so we also got Mexican rice and refried beans on the side. The meat in my taco was so bland that I wanted to go back into the kitchen to look for the Old El Paso original flavor spice packets (or Taco Bell wrappers). The cheese enchilada might have been good except the sauce on it was not. Unfortunately, that was the same sauce on both of my wife's enchiladas, so her meal pretty much sucked. The Mexican rice just occupied space - both when it arrived and when we left. It was so bland that we deemed it unworthy of the carbs it would cost. The refried beans were actually pretty good, but who goes to a Tex-Mex restaurant for the refried beans? I don't see a return trip in our future.
Chuy's is the best Tex Mex on the east coast...try the Boom Boom sauce!
