Belly Clams are made of rubber. Why would anyone want to pay $25.00 for rubber food?????  and dried out french fries.  I went there 10 years ago and it was good. If I want fish, I would have better luck at the freezer section at Stop & Shop. I think it would be fresher.  You can't tell they are rubber from a photo.  They smell good, and look good, but after chewing 25 times, I threw them out.  I gave a few french fries to my 3 dogs, and threw them out too.

City Fish has been my go to any time I needed a fix of whole belly clams.  I have never had a bad meal until today.  Everyone knows that you can't overcook clams because they turn into little pieces of rubber.  These were so overcooked they were no longer tender and most of them were inedible. I ended up throwing most of them away.  For $24.99 I expect better.  The three stars was because the clam chowder was good.

Hard to believe this place only has a 3  1/2 star average rating at the time of this writing. Looking at some of the more recent reviews trending negative I decided to stop back in and see what, if anything had changed. I've been eating seafood from City Fish my whole life, either direct from the market to the local restaurants and supermarkets they supply and from the restaurant inside the market. Especially when I worked a few doors down and would stop in for lunch at least once a week. City Fish Market is primarily a seafood distributor. They supply a large number of local restaurants and supermarkets in the area including their own kitchen and seafood counter in the market itself. This review covers all of that and will also be updated in the near future, specifically for the lobster roll in a collection of reviews I'm working on to find the best one this summer in Connecticut. The layout has changed over the years, I remember coming here as a kid with my dad to pick up lobsters, steamers or other seafood, the most notable thing inside the main building is the 5,000 gallon lobster pound, usually full of live Maine lobsters. It isn't a tank, it isn't a farm, it's literally a "pound" so they can keep a large quantity on hand for sale, distribution and in-house preparation. I've read some other review comments about things from here being 'farm-raised' and the lobster is definitely not one of them. It's typically very cost prohibitive to 'farm' lobsters and being as close to Maine as we are there's no reason to. As far as the other seafood I think they have about 6 things they sell that are farm-raised and they have wild caught versions of at least a few of those. As far as freshness and quality are concerned I've never had a problem from here though I can see that the recent supply chain issues may be impacting that. Unless you're at the shoreline you won't find fresher seafood. They have a nice dining area up front if you'd like to sit and eat the prepared food from the restaurant. While they have some prepared items that I don't particularly like that's my personal preference, yours may vary. If you're looking for fresh seafood in the central CT area there is no other choice. Especially if you're looking for items you won't normally find in a supermarket like scallops, sport fish, etc. They also provide a large number of recipes for the seafood they sell on their website. While you might be able to find it cheaper elsewhere, you won't find better quality than this. There is a reason those yellow trucks are EVERYWHERE all over the state.
