There are hundreds if not thousands of barbecue restaurants in Atlanta and I have tried many of them, as well as joints around the state and throughout the southeast. Of the barbecue places that I have visited Community Q is without doubt my favorite. I have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. Not everything they serve is to my taste but everything I have tried has been excellent. There are two or three other barbecue restaurants in Northeast Atlanta that come close but Community Q is the best. The pulled pork is some of the best you will ever find and the mac and cheese while not a traditional mac and cheese is the best that I have ever eaten. If you enjoy barbecue or just want to chow down on some good down-home side dishes you should definitely try out Community Q.
I come to this place often despite living on the other side of Atlanta. If you are even thinking about trying this place, do it. Reasonably priced, amazing bbq, delicious Mac and cheese, AND you smell like a BBQ smoker for the rest of the day (which is a plus in my book). I've never strayed from the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and baked beans but you can't go wrong with anything on their menu.
I'd heard a LOT about Community Q BBQ, saw the 800 plus reviews, and have driven past it often enough to know where it was and how popular it was.  With all that said, for my mom's birthday, I stopped in and bought some BBQ to go for a dinner.  What did I think and more importantly, what did I get?? I ordered the following: full slab of ribs ($24) pint of brunswick stew ($6.75) pint of baked beans ($6.75) So first up are the slab of ribs. I purchased their St. Louis Style slab, which are smaller than the typical rib i've experienced from practically every other bbq spot.  The full slab is about 16 to 18 rib bones depending, and for what it's worth, the ribs were fall off the bone tender.  The ribs themselves are seasoned well and don't need the sauce that comes with (vinegar based or tomato based).  Size withstanding, the ribs were good! For their sides, I wasn't so lucky.  The baked beans had thick chunks of meat and tasted of brown sugar.  This is great if you like super sweet beans.  To cancel out the sweet I had to actually pour the vinegar based sauce on the beans to cut through the sugar.  I'm not saying the beans are bad.  I AM saying they were far too sweet for me. The brunswick stew, at least in our case ended up being much more soupy than stewy.  The flavors of the stew were bland, and unlike the beans, I had to add the tomato based bbq to it to get the flavor the way I wanted it.  So another side was a miss for me. Located off of Clairmont road in Decatur, Community Q BBQ is in a very small restaurant strip, next door to the Nectar Juice bar.  There is one red light exit but it doesn't hold for very long.  Parking inside can be an issue because the lot is not large, but you should be able to find parking. Seating for Community Q doesn't seem to be a problem.  Plenty of space and outdoor seating.  I can't speak for the customer service because the order was to go, but it seemed like a well oiled machine. It's hard to put a thumb on this review, because the ribs were cooked well and had good flavor, but were small, and i've had a lot more rib for the same price.  At the same time, the sides just were not good.   The ribs are 4 stars to me, although collectively today i'll be giving 3 stars to Community Q.  I hope I can get that score bumped up during my next visit!
