I have just found out that Coney Island Lunch will be changing hands and that Pete and Bob Ventura are retiring. Coney Island Lunch has been a mainstay in the Scranton, Pennsylvania area and truly is an iconic restaurant that has been in business about a hundred years. A century is a long time for any business and this humble little hot dog spot has fed generations. The service was always friendly and I love hot dogs, so this was always a good stop for me, as well as a stop that I looked forward to. There are plans to keep Coney Island Lunch, plus add on and develop the property (add apartments and the vacant lot next door). Change is inevitable, but it is important to embrace what helped define a community and Coney Island Lunch definitely helped define Scranton, Pennsylvania.
