This was our splurge meal during our food tour of Mexico City and the food was so good we damn near went again. Rating Breakdown: 2/2 Stars for Taste -- We came for the octopus but we had a few surprise winners along the way. The tuna tostadas were perfectly seasoned to highlight the freshness of the fish, probably one of our favorite dishes. We also ordered the tuna carnitas -- we didn't know we needed fish carnitas in our life until now. Phenomenal! The octopus was as good as promised, it was perfectly cooked so that it was tender but not chewy. There was a good char flavor without being overwhelming. We also ordered the house special fish -- while it was good, we probably wouldn't come back for it. The soft shell crab was also nothing special. Don't leave without trying the fig tart! As my Asian mother would say ~ "Not too sweet!" 1/1 Stars for Value -- You definitely pay for the quality that you receive. Everything tasted super fresh and they don't skimp on portion sizes. Definitely the priciest meal we had in Mexico City, but hey, treat yoself! 1/1 Stars for Customer Service -- Our server was super accommodating. When he saw we had an odd number of people, he immediately let us know that we could add a serving to each order (e.g. 5 tostadas instead of 4) and adjusted the price for us. After we asked about the different beverages, he even brought us a few samples to try so we could make up our minds about a pitcher. The only downside to this place being so freaking delicious is that it gets pretty busy so you're really packed into the restaurant. For those that may be more concerned about COVID risk, they also have outdoor seating! Bonus star because we loved this place so much we almost went on consecutive days. We just walked in on a weekday for dinner and had maybe a 20 minute wait. Did not need a reservation!

A few months before my recent trip to Mexico City, I tried in vain to score a reservation for Contramar.  Pujol, no problem.  Contramar, nope.  I read reviews on dozens of traveler recommended places, and Contramar was consistently touted as one of the best.  I was pretty disappointed that I couldn't try their famed seafood dishes, that is until an employee at our bed and breakfast told us we didn't need a reservation.  "Just walk up.  You might have to wait for a while, but you'll get seated."  Really?  Well okay.   We arrived after the lunch rush, and were seated right away, with three or four other tables also available.  The service that ensued was truly a marvel of efficiency. Within a minute or two our drink orders were taken, and within another minute or two they arrived.  Very tasty cocktails. We ordered the obligatory tuna tostadas, and about a minute or two later they were at our table.  The entire experience went like this.  Very fast paced.  I've never seen a place that can put dishes out this fast, so their turnover must be quite a profit machine.   Tuna tostadas:  The tuna was very fresh and tasty.  The tortillas though reminded me of the store bought mini, crunchy ones.  That was fine, but a bit curious.  We both enjoyed these. Oysters:  Well, they were out of oysters, but did recommend the soft shell crab, another good choice.   Rapidfire to the final selection: A half dozen clam shells with blood clam ceviche piled into each.  These were also very good and extremely fresh tasting.  The clam to other ingredient ratio was fairly small, but it really worked well. Service:  Like I said, super fast, but not rushed.  You can just order one thing to share, and decide after if you want something else, knowing it will be a minute or two before it arrives.  Granted, we only had appetizers, so I am sure some dishes will take longer. Atmosphere: Casual dress, on the noisy side with chatter, fast moving staff with all smiles.
