Creel cafe is something special. However, I’m worried it might be losing its touch. I’m all for changing menu’s with the seasons but some things have a status of their own... Taking the renown chicken pie (really the best executed) -that people would detour for- off the menu is a concern. Then the roast beef sandwich used to have thick cut juicy roast beef, now it’s seems just the ordinary supermarket slices. Not the same.. and therefore I’m not sure if it’s worth what it’s priced at anymore.. The high standard of food and different menu to all the other cafe’s in New Zealand is what previously set this quaint little cafe apart. Please don’t let it slide. Keep the magic! I absolutely love the Creel Tackle House & Cafe! This cafe is my favorite place to get breakfast with fisher friends before hitting the river. There is a large selection of delicious baked goods readily available if you're in a rush, and if you have more time, you can enjoy a made-to-order hot breakfast, all at very reasonable prices.Creel Tackle House is the oldest fly fishing shop in all of New Zealand, with lots of history behind it. Jason has everything a demanding fisherman/woman could want--the shop is well-stocked with a variety of brands for every budget. Jason is quick to offer product advice and recommendations, and he is also an excellent fly tier who custom ties flies exactly how you'd like them (he can tie them on barbless hooks if you'd prefer). He is also one of the very few fly shop owners who will allow you to test out different rods ON THE WATER before you buy them!Jason is such a kind-hearted man--he once rescued a group of us after we had come off the river and discovered that our car was a 90-minute walk away. He was going fishing with his son, but took the time to take us back to our car which we were extremely grateful for. I don't get down to Turangi as often as I would like, but when I do I visit his shop to check out his new products. On my last visit, I discovered that he carries barred marabou feathers from Montana--much higher quality! Highly recommended (both the cafe and the tackle shop).
