Wow. Just wow. The food here is wonderful, as is the service. It's reputation goes back over 20 years. Our first trip to Charleston last year had us wishing we had made reservations, so this year we got ourselves booked early. So glad we did. Can't wait to return again next time we visit.
Good pastries
I had high hopes before my dining experience based on the raving previous reviews. Apparently, while the service might be lacking, the food was supposed to be phenomenal. Sadly, I did not find this to be. For one, we did take out due to our lack of reservations. We ordered and waited outside. Luckily, I was in a pretty good mood and wasn't minding the 40 minute wait as there was nothing important left on the itinerary; nonetheless, the wait was 40 minutes. The place itself was very crowded, but the atmosphere seemed pleasant all the same. We eventually got to eat our food and I have to say, it did not live up to expectations. The gnocchi was not recieved too well as was the caesar salad which seemed cheap. The steak was good, but of a small portion. I had the lamb which was probably the best tasting and not too bad overall. We also got the mac and cheese which was very rich, but probably the best dish. Overall, the food was certainly lackluster as was our experience overall. A bit disappointing considering the price.
