After a few visits, settling around 4 stars. 4.5 * -Fish tacos: sweet-marinated fish over fried seaweed; for sure their stand-out item. 4 * -Nigiri omakase: the fish is not bad. A bit on fusion-y side. The rice isn't anything to write home about, but generally a solid dish. 3.5 * -Okra yamaimo: nice sauce (especially if you love the texture of okra/yamaimo); they say to make a nori wrap, but I don't think it quite works (the sauce drips through the holes of the seaweed). -Calimari: nice fry (perhaps a just a tad bit too hard), but the hollandaise sauce is completely dispensable. -Una-Q: -Ochazuke: not bad. -Lobster tempura: okay; nothing special. 2.5 * -Cucumber salad: they use the English-style cucumbers, which is better than normal American sorts, and they're sliced nicely, but overall bland and a bit too heavy on the salt. Other notes: -The location has a fairly decent amount of seating (casual, but nice), and it's generally been pretty easy to get a table the same day or by walk-in. -Service can be hit or miss, but nothing so far that overtly detracts from the experience.
Over the years I've been coming here for omakase, the nigiris seem to get significantly smaller and smaller. It's really disappointing since I frequent this place for omakase because it's reasonably priced. With that said, I'm considering on finding another place to go to for omakase.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in San Mateo/Burlingame. Food is great, service is great, cleanliness is good. Also, reasonably priced. I've been here two times so far. Will go again for sure. I recommend the fried squid legs, potstickers, fried chicken nuggets, and sashimi salad.
