Having had Greek food for over a week whilst on holiday my wife and I decided to have a change.
We went to Zio Fede at about 9pm and was immediately given a table - so far so good.
It took a while to get the order placed and while we were waiting to do this I noticed that the restaurant was almost full however there were only two people serving and one guy cleaning up the finished tables.
This had obviously caused a backlog of orders. We eventually were served with our meal which was a large spicy pizza for my wife and a Spaghetti Carbonara for me.
This is my go to meal in most Italian restaurants as it’s quite easy to make.
Well the carbonara was awful - it lacked taste, had hardly any ham/bacon lardons in it and to top it off it was completely undercooked. It was in fact gooey for want of a better term.
I tried to eat it but only had a couple of mouthfuls before realising how bad it was.
I attempted to get the attention of any of the staff but they were nowhere to be seen and when they were there they were seating new customers.
After a while I just shared my wife’s pizza which to be honest was lovely.
From finishing her pizza we had to wait around 40 mins to get anyone’s attention and this was the guy cleaning tables.
He immediately turned and spoke to the manager in Italian and asked him to come over.
The manager waved him off and then went and took the order from a table of around 15 people ignoring us.
I eventually managed to get the other server, a woman, to come to the table and I told her about both the wait and the poor carbonara. She then asked what was wrong with it. I told her it was undercooked to which she said it was supposed to be like that. I explained that I had eaten this dish in more restaurants in more countries of the world than I care to remember and that this was not how it was supposed to be. She then said that the woman chef was from Rome as if coming from a city makes you the grand font of all cooking knowledge!
We were told that two of the servers had failed to come in to work that evening hence the appalling wait. I told her that if they couldn’t service the customers already in the restaurant then why were they still taking “walk-ins”!
So on the whole a poor night with poor service and a really poor carbonara!
I won’t be going again.

Very poor experience here tonight, slow service from start to finish, Carbonara came and was tasteless and not cooked properly. The pizza on the other hand was really lovely.
It took 45 minutes to get someone’s attention when we’d finished the pizza, didn’t eat the pasta, we explained about how we felt, nicely at first, but then she started picking at the food saying it looked fine to her, but by then it was just a congealed mess on a plate. She then proceeded to tell us the chef was from Rome and knew how how to cook a Carbonara, which clearly she didn’t.
People were leaving after being sat waiting for 20/30 mins without even being asked if they wanted a drink.
Really bad service... we were told it’s because staff didn’t turn up for work... well don’t take on so many covers if you are short staffed.
