Was going for Carolyn's down the st but crazy busy... Happily found this place.. lots of character... Friendly staff and delish skillet and french toast!!
JR and staff are very friendly, food is delicious!
Like many of Redlands' homespun family-centered restaurants, the Eating Room fits a competent, if middle of the road rendering of Americana cuisine. It's a somewhat sprawling interior design with the notable Martha Green's Bakery adjacent and another dinner menu spot in the back. Street parking is plentiful in the downtown so getting here is easy. In the past I've tried the usual pancakes and eggs yadda yadda yadda variations, spam ham and ham, and the "burrito" for breakfast (nyet), but the recent venture into corned beef hash reminded me of why I don't make it a specific point to eat here. It's not bad, I'm not totally ripping on the place, it's just not great. So, the good I suppose first: the water. That's all. Just kidding, their bread is superb and attributable to the bakery, also excellent is the house strawberry preserves (really yummy!), the cook also prepared my over-medium eggs perfectly, which is a good sign. However, yeah, I foreshadowed up there, the corned beef had the institutionalized flavor (canned?) but what saved it was the fresh diced potatoes accompanied by grilled onions and red bell peppers. Overall this is a  sound choice for taking the family to, the only nearby alternative is Denny's, and prices are reasonable too. Sometimes the service is a little slow but the servers are very sweet.
