Nicely cooked tartare, venison and amuse bouches are the best dishes. Taste good Pavlova, brownies and fruitcake. You will certainly like the enjoyable ambiance and spectacular fireplace. As for the Google rating, this restaurant got 4.7.

We had an absolutely delightful experience at Essen Restaurant! The Nigella seed focaccia was a flavourful start followed by the smoked pumpkin filled pappardelle which was simply divine (still dreaming about it!!). The wood-fired trout and Heart & Soil heirloom tomatoes were equally delicious. The service was impeccable, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I highly recommend Essen Restaurant for a memorable dining experience! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$80–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Three Course

Staff were friendly and attentive but the only choice of entree served to us of a dish made of several slices of completely raw beef on a plate (not rare - but raw) with some fancy name of Beef Carpaccio (the staff told us that yes, it is completely raw but advised us it is completely safe to eat 100% raw beef so long as it is very fresh, straight from the butcher ) was something totally inedible and repulsive to us. We have never come across this ever in our dining out experiences - and find it unusual that it is offered as the only entree in a set menu. We never touched the plates at all and they were taken straight back to the kitchen, with us politely informing them that there was no way we could stomach eating slices of completely raw beef. No refund was offered or maybe swapping it out for dessert. Later, at the end, we were offered a coffee because we 'weren't keen on the entree.' Then the main meal was very light on indeed - it was duck and it was the toughest meat we have eaten in a long time - very chewy, with a small amount of red cabbage on the side (which was like sauerkraut and quite nice) and very small piece of homemade brownie. No other veggies at all. We paid $12 extra for the crispy potatoes on the side - they were nicely done and the best thing about the whole meal. Turned out to be a very expensive piece of duck at $60 per person for small appetiser of chicken broth(which was a nice way to wake up the taste buds for a meal), inedible entree and very tough main plus $12 for the potatoes. We went away feeling very unsatisfied. Wouldn't go back again.
