I would never go back because of the way they treat single people, but it's a great restaurant. I only had one dish there, but is was the scallop quenelles, and they were fantastic. The staff was great too. I am a single traveler staying across the street at a nice motel, and I gather they don't see my type much. There's not a bar, so it's not a place single people would usually go (locals make rezzes). I stood in the door at the hostess station for a long time -- and I'm stressed from travel -- and started dissolving into tears because I couldn't get seated. But this is the type of place that caters to normal people who are couples. I'm not that. Im just me. And I won a goddam Emmy two days ago, so I'm not nobody. Anyway, they finally seated me when I was about to melt into a puddle. Let's just say this is a weird place to go alone. The server ladies were trying to be nice to me and were pulling all these chairs away from a table for six to make it look like a onesie should sit there, and I honestly had no idea where to sit or go (there was a table for two, but it was close to actual civilized people). Once I was seated, I was glad to be there. It's a lovely place and the dish I had was phenomenal. Also there was some amuse bouche of foie gras or such that was delectable. But if you're a single diner, just no. Also I think most people at my motel (dog-friendly spot) are probably not their target audience, which is too bad as it's the only walking-distance spot.
My husband and I have celebrated our anniversary for several years at Evan's.  We live in San Antonio and try to get to Tahoe every yr in Sept.  We have never been disappointed.  This is a wonderful restaurant tucked away in an old home that exudes charm.  The wait staff is extraordinarily and the owners are frequently greeting patrons.  The food is excellent.  We just had their grilled watermelon salad and salmon special.  Outstanding!!!!   This is a definite MUST if you are looking for ambiance and a delightful dining experience!
We celebrated our 8th anniversary tonight and it was stellar... amazing food and even better service. The quality of the food and fresh ingredients that were from the local farmers market were awesome. If you're looking for a special meal to celebrate, this is your place in South Tahoe!
