Popped in here randomly on our travels late on a Saturday evening. We we warmly welcomed and looked after by the bar and serving staff. They were all incredibly friendly and polite! We ate here and the food was fresh, hot and delicious. Our dogs were welcomed and there were treats and water available for them. The pub itself is lovely and older styled, with nooks and crannies and tables everywhere. Really lovely atmosphere and history and kept warm and comfortable. Highly recommend. We used to visit this pub regularly, but since the new owners took over, it’s gone downhill fast. After getting our own menus thinking there was quite a few dishes to choose from, we were then told most of the menu wasn’t actually available and had mysteriously shrunk to just 4–5 items, with the rest apparently “sold out” by 1pm on a Sunday. Impressive, if the goal is to run out of food before lunchtime. We waited over an hour for our meals. After chasing it up, we were told they were busy baking baguettes, our food still took another 20 minutes to arrive! Perhaps the baguette needed a motivational speech before coming out of the oven. When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm, dry, and overcooked, including an especially heroic baguette that had clearly fought a long, brave battle with the heat and lost. Think less “freshly baked” and more “archaeological artifact.” Three out of four meals came with a limp, lifeless salad — a truly tragic side dish that looked like it had given up on life hours earlier. Honestly, the salad had less energy than we did after waiting an hour. The pie had a pastry that would have been better used as Kevlar. Even my dog spend a good minute chewing it and needed a large drink of water to wash it down. After raising our concerns, there was no apology, no discount, and no offer of a free drink, just a lame excuse. Many other customers left frustrated or disappointed, and we won’t be returning either. Such a shame that what once was a lovely establishment is being run by incompetent management/staff. Avoid at all costs and spend your money somewhere that actually appreciates its customers — and knows when to stop baking baguettes. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
