Fico is a special occasion restaurant. Mostly because everything about it is special, but ultimately, because the level of care and attention to detail in every aspect of the experience is worthy of encompassing them. This was our third visit to Fico, and it was as amazing and memorable as always. The food honours seasonal local produce with a nose to tail philosophy, pushing boundaries of flavour that encompass the entirety of the ingredients, rained in by borderless, old world techniques that offer structure and refinement. The wine list is better than most and mirrors the philosophy of the food, consisting of a lovingly curated and well considered compendium of local heroes and old world icons. This is not a dining experience for the faint of heart. But when you realise the amount of heart that has gone into creating it, it will remain in yours for as long as we are lucky enough to experience it. A nightmare experience. Please don't waste your money. Despite the restaurant's courses being priced at around $170 per person, there's an additional charge of $6 per oyster, which nobody ordered during my visit. Moreover, adding truffles to pasta incurs an extra fee. The taste of the dishes is very ordinary and not worth $170. Despite making a reservation well in advance, I was seated at a round communal table with four other diners. To exacerbate matters, the table was unstable and wobbled whenever the other diners moved. Not suitable for special occasions. The waiter's attitude is poor, and communication seems lacking. Additionally, they push for drinks in a very assertive manner. The staff explaining the dishes rush through their descriptions and quickly return to the kitchen, showing they don't enjoy their job. Furthermore, the restaurant was filled with the smell of smoke. My hair and clothes ended up smelling like I had been with smokers, and the odor lingered even inside my home.
