Lovely dinner. Oysters, fish and soup were all fantastic. Would definitely go back.
Great food, cocktails, decor and staff
Firstly, I want to say that it is not in my nature to complain unnecessarily- however I write on behalf of my husband and I.Ironically- we were at the baths in Clontarf deliberating as to whether to eat there- but we decided as we had seen Fishbone on the seafront decided to drive down and have dinner there instead. 1) The table was grubby with drink marks and sticky to touch and we had to ask for the waiter to kindly clean it- which was a little embarrassing. 2) we ordered a 46 eur fish plate (deciding to upgrade) and started the fish plate with 3 separate fish types. The first two fish, though not amazing at all- were fine. We started to de-bone the 3rd fish which was a whole fish- started to eat it and on the other side of it discovered two disgusting veiny rubbery tube like structures at least 2 or 3 inches long. I was not sure if this was a worm or some parts of the fish innards but my husband and I instantly started to feel sick and left the rest of the food (which was half the fish) and fries because we felt purely appalled and lost our appetite. Not wanting to 'make a scene' in front of the other diners- I asked my husband to take the plate inside and raise this with the Manager. The Manager looked at it, and went to raise with the chef and came back and said it was basically normal and part of the fish. The Chef also mentioned rudely that we had already eaten the food 'as in what could be wrong if you guys ate it'- as we explained earlier- this was the 3rd and last fish so of course we ate the others! This response was uncaring and to be frank, totally irrelevant. They should of owned the mistake- which was to clean the fish and gut it completely and APOLOGISE. It was clear that they became indignant which I don't believe is acceptable- particularly for a 46 euro fish plate. They offered us a 10% DISCOUNT! imagine...appalling. They should of at least offered the dish with 50% off or free to be honest as not only was it completely disgusting and turned us off our remaining food but could have made us ill. At this point, in retrospect we are livid we didn't take a photo. Lastly 3) After all of the above, they came with the wrong bill. Our bill was 61 eur but the bill came in over 70 euro. The waiter was unable to split the numbers, so I offered to utilise my calculator to assist. Only afterwards my husband checked the bill did he notice we were overcharged and the man offered him 2 euro back- so he didn't even offer the measly 10% discount - so we didn't even receive it in the end! We were so hurt and disgusted, we have vowed unfortunately never to return. We literally couldn't go back and raise it with the Manager as we were 'done'. Really disappointing on our day off to have that- on an otherwise perfect day. To the restaurant- you cant get complacent in this world. You really need to appreciate good customers and if you serve fish with items inside then you shouldn't be in the fish restaurant business- check the fish and clean before you serve. Don't get defensive and for god sake- its an insult to offer 10% off for all the above trouble.I really hope you listen to the above feedback.RESPONSE to restaurant reply below dated 29/07/19.1- Irrespective of location of table - the table should not be dirty. I don't see the relevance of which table we chose- it takes 1 minute to sanitise and wipe with a cloth?2- I can assure you the parts served to us inside the fish were not roe. And furthermore- I think you will find, unless stated, most people would prefer the fish cleaned and completely gutted unless a specific body part (ovaries, eggs etc) are requested specifically I am pretty sure customers would appreciate knowing.. The parts were several inches long and tubular and most definitely off putting.3- Half of the 3rd fish was left on the plate. Making your customers out to be liars is very undesirable.4-The team member (whom you referred to) offered us the discount and was not the Manager as he stated. So if you don't offer it as policy- why did he? Irrespective- we didn't receive it
