My wife and I went for the classic Fitzgerald fish fry we remembered from years ago. What a let down. Knowing how busy Fitzgerald's always used to be I called ahead to check on the wait time, the man who answered did it was about 20 minutes wait for a table. I asked if we should make a reservation and he took our name down. When we arrived the parking lot was relatively empty and the were only 6 tables of people dining, strange. The next surprise was the salad bar had been shut down in favor of a basic side salad offered at the table. They also include a bowl of soup with the meal. Clam chowder was your only option apparently. The soup was fine but could have come from a can. We were informed by our waitress we got the last 2 bowls of soup-it was 7:30. The waitress offered us a loaf of bread at the beginning of the meal but had to be reminded twice to bring it to us. My wife ordered the fried cod and I ordered the baked, we both also ordered the garlic mashed potatoes (they also offered baked, french fries or hash browns). My order of baked fish was larger than my wife's order of fried which we both thought strange since they both cost an abnormally high $16.00 each. The fried was basic beer battered, nothing exciting. My baked was bland, no flavor though the fish appeared to be of good quality. Both of our orders of garlic mashed potatoes were overcooked and appeared to be scraped from the bottom of a pan that sat in the oven warming for hours. At the end of the meal we were offered dessert which we were not in the mood for then the waitress topped off our waters and disappeared. After several minutes I went looking for her but didn't see her anywhere. I checked the hostess desk but there was no one there either. Eventually our waitress came out from the kitchen and we were able to settle up or bill at which point we both left upset at the outcome of our evening out. Apparently they have a new owner who is planning on introducing Korean faire to the menu. May be that can save the dying Middleton tradition that is Fitzgerald's restaurant.
