Right on the water of Santa Rosa Sound in Gulf Breeze, Flounder's Chowder House is a  beachside restaurant and  fish that's been serving up good food and good times a across the bridge from Pensacola since 1979. It's easy to spot the 55-foot M/V FLOUNDER, out front that's a real shrimp boat,  an Alabama built vesel, that fished the waters between Key West and Mexico with Frank Flounder and his sons. Inside the decor has some fun stuff from the Tequila, the parrot, to church confessional seating from New Orleans, stained glass from upstate NY to, on their beach, an actual 15-foot Cuban raft, with a Russian built engine, that carried 27 Cuban refugees 85 miles across the Gulf from Cuba to Key West in 1988. From the indoor and outdoor seating, the beach chairs and bar to the big stage for entertainment there's a warm inviting beach beach atmosphere here. Walk through to the interior and you're greeted by smiling faces that seat you and then get ready for some food. Our server Aubri was a joy who made us feel very welcome and made some nice suggestions while explaining the food and preparations. We've had their food before so we knew what to expect but this is our first time here post Sally we were happy to see that happy to see that everything is as good as ever, especially the food. We started with some tall glasses of local McGuire's Irish Red beer, ($11 and you keep the glasses) a basket of warm rolls with in-house honey butter and an generous app of big flounder fish fingers with sriracha sauce, so tasty. Everything fried here is flash fried and the batter has a touch of corn meal that's done in a no-cholesterol oil that's not greasy or oily. My choice today was "Fred Flounder's Flash Fried Favorites" which is a huge platter including flounder fillets, deep water shrimp, coconut shrimp, popcorn shrimp, and deviled crab with hushpuppies, homemade coleslaw and flash fried potatoes. It's a lot of food that is big enough for two. My honey went with the "Fish Po' Boy" which is big flounder fillets on a good French bread hoagie roll and fries. Both of us brought home nearly half of our entrees. There's more than just the delicious fresh Gulf seafood here too, they serve pasta, tacos, burgers, a big sushi menu,  steaks, and delicious desserts like key lime pie. The portions are so big that you might consider dessert first however the key lime slice is nearly half a pie :-) Big shout out again to Aubri and management here because when I mentioned to her that my sweetheart's second beer wasn't very cold, as a courtesy, she went to the bar and came back with another cold one and comp glass. It wasn't my intention but it was a very nice gesture that speaks volumes to their customer policy. Kudos There's beach outdoor seating that is dog friendly, a kids playground, they delivery through DoorDash and their website let's you check live wait times and get on their wait list: Bottom line: The atmosphere and the people are  great and the food and drinks are outstanding. Highly recommended!
