Nestled in the heart of Temple Bar, Gallaghers Boxty House is a must-visit for those seeking a modern twist on traditional Irish cuisine. The establishment boasts a cozy and fun ambiance, perfect for both work-appropriate meals and casual meetups with friends. The interior design is charming, featuring wood floors and a clever use of space that makes the tables feel less crowded. The price range is on the higher side, but the delicious food and exceptional service make it worth every penny.
One of the special features of this eatery is their outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a warm Dublin evening while sipping on a refreshing cocktail like the Jameson Sour or a soft drink like the homemade lemonade. Wine lovers will appreciate the extensive wine list featuring both local and international wines.
The menu offers a variety of options, from the classic Irish lamb stew to the inventive Boxty Fries. The Full Irish Breakfast is a must-try, featuring eggs, potatoes, and sausage. Vegetarians will love the dumplings and the dublin coddle. For dessert, the sticky toffee pudding is a standout.
Despite a few minor flaws, such as limited gluten-free options and occasionally bland stews, Gallaghers Boxty House remains a top fine dining spot in Dublin. The attentive and friendly staff, along with the outstanding food, make it a memorable experience for any visitor.
This is famous for having been on TV. It was a good show. And Phil goes to a lot of places to eat. When in Dublin he went to Boxty. It is famous for potatoes. But then there are many restaurants in Ireland famous for potatoes. It is a part of the diet.
The crowd was big here. We were lucky to get in. Of course, we had to go downstairs to get one of the last tables. The service was fair. Not exactly fast. It took 10 minutes before we got the menu to consider what to order. We ordered a cocktail and beer to start. Then we looked at the menu to order for the three of us.
Then we waited. And waited. And waited. That took over 30 minutes to even receive the appetizer. Then we waited and waited.
By the time we ordered to the time we started dinner took over 90 minutes. Not fast here.
As for the food, it was fine. It was fresh. The potatoes were the potatoes. This is what they are famous for. It is nothing new. Just named for the TV show it was on.
They asked if we wanted dessert. We already spent enough time here so we asked for the bill. Then we waited and waited. My wife went upstairs to wait and I took care of everything else. We then left and went to the Palace Pub for a beer. We sat at the counter and it took only 5 minutes to get. That was perfect.
It was fine to visit. But I can get my potato salad at home.
Our first meal in Dublin was here at the Gallaghers Boxty House as we were walking around Temple Bar looking for an early dinner. It was around 6 pm on a Saturday night and we decided to dine in here at Gallaghers. The place was pretty busy BUT even if it looks busy inside, there is a downstairs seating area too so they may be able to accommodate! Amongst the three of us, we wanted to try the Stew Platter and the Fish and Chips. The fish and chips were good and not overly greasy. The lemon/lime mayo and the purée made dipping the fries and the fish more flavorful. The stew platter contained three different types of stews: the Irish lamb stew, beef and stout stew, and the Dublin coddle. This was a great option, especially if you're undecided on a stew option from their list of main dishes. Overall, this was a great place for dinner. For the two dishes with tip, our meal was around 60 euros. I wouldn't mind trying this place again during my next trip to Dublin but I also wouldn't mind trying something else as there are MANY places to eat in Dublin.
