Food was not great, customer service is what got them the 3 stars. Fish was over cooked and I could not recommend or return.

What happened to this always reliable, merdiocre at best, SLC staple?  I went there yesterday for lunch at 12:30 pm.  It was empty.  The menu has been slimmed down to 7-11 quality.   The formerly healthy crab and avocado salad came with nothing green and the crab was smothered with melted cheese!   The crab was spolied - I could smell the amonia when it arrived.  Incredibly, my glass of house wine was event less than the legal anemic 5 ounces. Now I understand why it was empty.  Stay away.

It had been about 3 years since we dined at the Market Street Oyster Bar. Last night's experience was very unfamiliar and much lower quality than I remember. First off, we made a reservation (party of 3) and requested a booth in our reservation notes. Upon arrival there were several booths available, but our hostess sat us at a traditional table, claiming all the booths were reserved for future guests. We dined for about 2 hours and just up until the bar was closing up for the night not one of those booths had patrons seated and we were left wondering? We ordered drinks, sourdough bread and a bowl of clam chowder, they were fine. Our appetizers and entrees however were a different story. The calamari was dime size and over fried, shriveled up and almost like a really expensive potato chip - no good. I ordered the Market Street Salad. Now, this is a $29 salad with lump crab meat and shrimp. Boy, what a letdown. This salad came out in what seemed like a side salad bowl (too small), five rubbery shrimp around the side, and a 1/4 cup of Lump crab meet in the center. The seafood sat on top of a bed of semi spoiled loose leaf iceberg and that was it. I was very underwhelmed and thought "is this my entree?" Additionally, the menu says the salad is tossed table side - this didn't happen. Rather, a dry rubbery spoiled salad with some sort of vinaigrette to wash it all down. Very disappointing and especially at the price point. Luckily we had an excellent server that recommended the Louie as a better, more tasteful option, so she took my salad back and had the kitchen add the Louie ingredients, which was the addition of capers, eggs, asparagus, a piece of red pepper, and tomatoes. This helped, but still not anywhere near the price point. My partner ordered a hamburger. It was clearly cooked in a pan and not charbroiled, which I know is Market Streets claim to fame. Another small detail that really goes a long way. The burger was mediocre at best and no where near the quality it was a few years ago. His sister ordered the fettuccine, a $20 dish that truly tasted like a TV dinner had been warmed up, placed under the heat lamp for 10 minutes then served. It was dry, flavorless and unfortunate. This bar/restaurant has a median entree price of I'd say $35. Some steaks and seafood on the menu can get upwards of $75+. It is definitely considered a higher end dining establishment. However, this experience was reminiscent of diner quality food and a $10-$15 price range. It was not the Market Street Oyster Bar that I remembered and unfortunately, we will not be going back.
