Enjoyed a 5 course meal, each course was unique and delicious. The staff was also very attentive and explained everything. They also requested smaller portions from the kitchen because I was dining alone!!
Very good winelist (no bordeaux :-D), fine service, and creative dishes.
My wife and I spent New Year 2018 in Amsterdam. For the evening before New Year's Eve we wanted to find a restaurant where we could experience some of Amsterdam's finest local cuisine. We found Gebr. Hartering in the Michelin Guide. It's on the quieter edge of the main tourist areas but, like everything in Amsterdam, as easy walk. The two brothers Hartering have an unusual concept. Each day the starters and desserts are fixed, and so you only have a choice of main course. Even then, there are only three choices. Sounded off-putting but we thought why not?Very glad we did. You receive a selection of starters and deserts served on a plate stand so you can try several. My favourite was a grey mousse that turned out to be Mushrooms Boykin, their own creation. Superb. The whole meal was sublime, with the fixed menu allowing the chef to present a meal where the different parts complemented and added to each other, not so easy where diners choose their own combinations. The staff were friendly, as all Amsterdammers are, enjoyed talking about the food and overall the service, ambience and the other necessities for a fine night were excellent.Highly recommended for an evening you will remember as a highlight of your visit.
