Apparently the empty tables are more valuable than the customers We tried to have dinner at Gloria in Shoreditch at around 7pm on a Sunday evening — no reservation, admittedly, but hardly peak time either: school holidays, beautiful summer weather, and a restaurant that looked about half empty. We were welcomed and immediately shown to a tiny table right next to the service/clearing station. When I politely asked if this was really the best available table, we were offered… the tiny table directly next to it. I pointed out the many empty tables elsewhere in the restaurant. Apparently those were tables for three or four people — and seemingly better kept empty than “wasted” on two actual customers. An interesting approach to hospitality. When we said we’d rather eat elsewhere than spend our evening next to the clearing station, there was no attempt to find an alternative, suggest we could use one of the larger tables for a limited time, or really make any effort to keep two customers who were already standing in the restaurant ready to eat and spend money. So we left. The hostess seemed entirely unbothered. Perhaps Gloria is fortunate enough not to need walk-in customers on a quiet Sunday evening. But there’s a fine line between being confidently fashionable and simply coming across as arrogant and indifferent - and our very brief experience unfortunately felt like the latter. We found somewhere nearby that was very pleased to have us. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your experience. We are genuinely sorry to know you felt turned away and unvalued during your visit. This is far from the warm, welcoming hospitality we wish to offer, and it’s disappointing to know we missed the mark so significantly. We are addressing your feedback with our team to ensure we do better and don’t let other guests feel the same.Best regards,La squadra di Gloria
