Came in here on a Sunday at 2pm and we were the only ones. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and explained a few dishes to us when we asked. We got Taiwanese Spicy hot pot with popcorn chicken and the pork bun, green onion pancake and Braised Beef rice as sides. Wow! Everything was just amazing. The hot pot "spicy" part was pretty spicy and had that numbing effect like Mabo Tofu has, but not enough for a spicy light weight such as myself couldn't handle. The popcorn chicken had a unique sweet garlicky breading to die for! We especially enjoyed the braised pork rice! The green onion pancake was extremely delicious, but for us could have been better without the sauce they drizzled on it. The pork bun was just amazing, it comes with a surgary peanut crumbled topping. I wasnt 100% in love with that but definitely didn't make it bad. Food came out reasonably fast as we would have expected being the only ones there. As we left an hr or so later there were a few more families dining. Prices were reasonable. We paid just under $40 for all that food. Most definitely need to try this place!! We will surely be back!
Huge fan of this spot! Food is a 4/5. I would give them a 5/5 but they once gave me a noodle soup dish that was so spicy (and I'm a huge fan of spicy) that it was almost inedible. Other than that, all our experiences have been positive. My favorite things to get here are: * Braised pork over rice (卤肉饭), which is such a steal. At 6.99 for the dish, you get a meal that's enough to satisfy me for a full meal. It comes with a tea egg and veggies, too! * Their popcorn chicken, which is a great fish to share between people who all order the braised pork over rice! * Their AYCE hot pot is surprisingly yummy. At $21.99 a head for lunch (and $2 more on nights and weekends), this is a good value if you're hungry!! We've been to other chinese restaurants in the ID that don't have as great a meat selection (typically just chicken, pork, beef, dish). This spot not only has shrimp, fish balls, squid, and more, they also have lots of options for veggies and carbs, along with a sauce bar. This would be a great spot to bring people who are keto or whole30! * Their mini hot pots - comparable to Boiling Point for much cheaper, at around $12-13 a mini hot pot. Good for if you're not in the mood for being bloated from AYCE. You can't really go wrong with this place, and IMO its a hidden gem in the ID because it's off the main strip. It's almost never full in here, but we always leave happy and satisfied with our meal. Highly recommend, strong 4/5!
I'm not too sure what the hype of this place is, but it was rather disappointing to me. Gourmet Noodle Bowl is tucked away a bit past the International District area. I ordered the Popcorn Chicken Rice, and the popcorn chicken had some strange breading on it. Also, the oil in which the chicken was fried in definitely tasted a bit off. The bok choy was more on the crunchy/raw side, which was unpleasant. Service was extremely slow here, as there was only one waiter for about 10 tables. I approached the front desk, handed my check and card to the manager (?), and she directed me to the poor waitress who was working with 10 other tables. I don't think I'd come back here again when there are much better places within International District.
