My girlfriend and I stumbled across Gruuthuse Hof while wandering through the beautiful, serene streets of Bruges on a sleepy Tuesday night in March. The restaurant sits in a uniquely structured building, sitting seemingly in the middle of the road if approaching from the south. Inside, 12-13 tables of varying sizes (primary for groups of 2, but larger tables are there to accommodate larger parties) sit in a cozy space, with wine bottles and soft red lighting at the back of the restaurant. We were seated immediately, and the attire appeared semi-formal (I felt a bit underdressed, but a nice sweater or shirt would do the trick here). We had a tasty Bordeaux red from St. Emillion, with goose liver patè as a shatter. Very tasty. For our main courses, we chose two: the pork chop with a Roquefort sauce, which was cooked very nicely, and the sauce was just exquisite. The fries that come with each meal are perfectly cooked, with a nice sweet taste to them. We also had the beef stew, which was hearty and very tasty. My girlfriend regretted not getting the chicken, which the table next to us ordered. For dessert we ordered the chocolate mousse with dark Belgian chocolate - it was light, fluffy, rich, and a perfect end to a delicious meal!
