A must-do while in Kyoto! You'll experience so much more than a cooking class. For a truly authentic cultural and culinary experience, take a few hours out of your trip to slow down for true connection and conversation, and an exceptional meal. Taro, you are a wonderful ambassador for Japanese food and culture. We feel lucky to have had this experience with you. Thank you Taro and Yoshiko, for opening up your home to us, this was the highlight of our trip.

This was an amazing and enlightening cooking class. The class is focused on the fundamentals of Japanese cooking. It’s very simple in concept but can be complex in how flavour profiles are developed. This was a fun and inspiring class. Can't wait to use the techniques and recipes learned in class. Wish me luck. Thank you Taro and Yoshiko, for welcoming us into your home. The open and frank conversation regarding Japanese life and culture was appreciated and eye opening.

One of the true highlights of our trip to Japan. My wife and I came hoping to learn the foundational elements and techniques of Japanese cooking so we could recreate traditional meals at home — and Taro and Yoshiko delivered beyond our expectations. Over 4–5 wonderful hours, they walked us through the building blocks of flavor — starting with dashi as the base — before moving on to miso soup, tamagoyaki, stir-fried vegetables, and more. Everything is taught in their home, which makes for a genuinely authentic experience you simply won't find at a tourist-oriented class. What made it extra special was the cultural conversation woven throughout. We left not only with new cooking skills, but a much deeper appreciation for Japanese food, its traditions, and the culture as a whole. Taro is an exceptional teacher and we highly recommend this class to anyone serious about learning to cook Japanese food the right way — and gaining a genuine window into Japanese culture along the way.
