We saw this place has higher rating in Chinatown, and we wanted to go to a HK style cafe. So, here we are. At first, we went to the place on the first floor by mistake and noticed everyone was having different kinds of food! We ordered a T-bone meal that came with a daily soup, baked pork chop rice, and a HK style mix of tea and coffee. The portion were big. We should have just ordered one dish! T-bone was great on a sizzling hot plate with gravy, it also came with rice or spaghetti and vegetables. Daily soup, bitter melon with pork. was unexpected good. For baked pork chop rice, the pork chop was too deep fried for me and the flavour of the sauce was lighter than expected. The fried rice was pretty good, though; it was still good when I had it for lunch the next day. HK style mix of tea and coffee was quite good as well. They had two tall tea spots, and we guessed they did it in the proper way. Fabulous food with incredible variety (never had a bad dish). Curries, Chinese, food, steaks, pork chops, soups and salads are all excellent. Very friendly staff. Thanks Chris!

To much of my disappointment, another of my favorite restaurant has fallen from grace. Hong Kong Bistro Cafe used to be my favorite location that provides a slightly pricier and significantly better quality option among other Chinatown restaurants. Today, I've ordered the combo B, fried fish cutlet, ginger and scallion lamb stew with rice, hot Horlick and cream of mushroom soup. The soup tasted like diluted Campbell with canned button mushrooms. The Horlick tasted like water with a small spoon of Horlick powder sprinkled in. Fried fish cutlet was quite small and thin, where the batter formed a shell thicker than the fish itself. As for the main entree in the photo, the lamb was grossly undercooked to the point where it is as chewy as bubble gum. The only mediocre part is the stir fried cabbages on the side. This entire nightmare of an experience costs $24.45. With this lower quality, smaller portion and higher price practice of Hong Kong Bistro Cafe, I will not be coming back again.
