We had a delightful introduction to the history of Dr. Gatewood and his home, which made our visit more memorable. We were celebrating a family birthday and were a party of 7, including 2 children under 8 years old. We are becoming more adept at ordering our food and drinks via a QR code link. And the staff was very helpful whenever we did have a question. The portion sizes were impressive. We had steaks, salmon, a huge pork chop and barbecued chicken thighs. Everything, including the mashed potatoes, was excellent and tasty. The wait service was attentive and checked on us several times. We will be returning again soon. I've lived in Mebane for a few years but only recently heard of the House at Gatewood. I read the rave reviews but limited my expectations and decided to go to Sunday brunch with a group of fifteen. I can't do justice to the relaxed, cozy yet elevated vibe of the grounds and the restaurant; it's perfectly curated. From the drinks, to the appetizers to the entrees everything was superb with incredibly prompt service. The Brisket, pimento cheese and beignets were so delicious! There was even some gently live music - Simply amazing!!! Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I was very disappointed in the Gatewood. First, the food: I ordered the scallops. with risotto, and specifically asked if they were sea scallops (the larger ones). Wait staff asked and confirmed. The dish was exceptionally salty, the scallops small and a bit overcooked, and the risotto a gummy mess. Then the service: the dining room was almost empty, but wait staff struggled to provide service. (They appeared to be new at the job.). Someone.... the manager?... came to the table and suggested we use the QR code and we said firmly no way. At those inflated prices? I will never goo there again!
