We found this by accident, as we were going to Riff Raff on the Rio. During dinner, all we could talk about was how excited we were to go check out a new whiskey bar!! After dinner, we walked over and were instantly impressed by the atmosphere. Great bar display....lots of cool, comfy decor. Someone greeted us and notified there was a trivia night (cool....we likely would have stayed if we didn't have to drive an hour home) and found some seats near the bar and perused the pretty rad menu. This is where it went downhill. A gum-chewing bartender came by to take our order. My boyfriend ordered a simple Manhattan. "Do you want that with Jim or Jack?" Barf! Seriously? All this amazing whiskey....yet nobody ever heard of Rittenhouse yet wants to offer a nasty choice as a substitute? I would have been more impressed if the bartender at least tried to upsell us with one of their high end whiskeys. Boyfriend went with Knob Creek in his Manhattan and I ordered an old fashioned off the menu as written. Bartender still tried to give me Jack (barf). Drinks came out in beautiful glassware, and although I enjoyed my old fashioned, it was not an old fashioned seeing as there was absinthe in it. It was tasty tho. The Manhattan....wow. I took one look at my boyfriend's disapproving face and had to try it. One sip....and it became the second worst Manhattan I've ever had. Wow. How do you screw up a Manhattan? It tasted like they dumped half a bottle of cheap maraschino juice in the drink. Maybe the vermouth had spoiled? Dunno. The worst one I ever had was in Durango, where the bartender made it with Jack and a plastic maraschino cherry and shook the bejeezus out of it. Anyways, we tipped the Iron Dram folk (all very nice) well and left quietly and won't ever return. I am very disappointed! It is such a great concept but damn, please make drinks properly!

Everything from the staff to the ambiance of the Iron Dram Whiskey Lodge is perfection. I had my baby shower here and it couldn't have gone any better! The men in attendance loved the whiskey as did the women. Shannon the owner is excellent at guiding a person to the whiskey that suits their palette best. I highly recommend this for any of your future venue needs or just a good night out with friends.
