Food – 5/5. Stopped by after a couple of friends wouldn't stop talking about the "Big Chicken Cutlet" — and the hype is justified. The cutlet is genuinely massive, bigger than my face. The focus here is Taiwanese street food, and having actually visited Taiwan myself and eaten these exact dishes there, I can say Java is doing it right. Lu Rou Fan — I've had Lu Rou Fan both here in the US and in Taipei, and this version holds its own against the best of them. At most places, the braised pork belly simply sits on top of the rice with minimal sauce. At Java, the braised sauce saturates the entire bowl so that every single scoop of rice carries the full flavor of the dish. The pork itself is soft and tender as it should be after hours of braising. The quail eggs are a nice touch, and the sweet pickles do a great job of balancing out the savory richness of the rest of the bowl. Face Slappin' Jipai — It's huge, and the crisp on the chicken cutlet delivers exactly the texture you're looking for. Fair warning — if you plan to eat it by hand, come prepared to wipe down. Java did not go light on the spice powder and there's a satisfying small kick to it. The chicken itself isn't dry, but it's not exceptionally juicy either given the thinness of the cut — a solid, well-executed medium. Service – 5/5. Counter order and pay — this is more of a café than a full sit-down restaurant, and the service reflects that accordingly. The staff are kind and greet you with a smile. Since it's a café-style setup, please do clean up after yourself when you're done — the staff are there to help, but it's not a full waitstaff operation. Atmosphere – 4/5. There's some seating inside, with plenty more available outside the storefront. A nice touch is that the outdoor seating area is covered with plastic liners to shield against rain and wind — a thoughtful detail. The outdoor tables and chairs are grated metal, so it's not the most comfortable setup for a long sit, but that's a minor trade-off that's absolutely worth making for the food quality. Parking is free and plentiful, so that's one less thing to worry about. Overall, a genuinely pleasant experience. Java is delivering on the Taiwanese street food flavor it's going for, and having been to Taiwan myself, I can say it hits the mark. No real complaints — I'll definitely be stopping by again.
