Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name... Jazzy's BBQ is one of the closest restaurants to my office. As a result, my customer loyalty card is punched quite frequently. I love BBQ and consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur. For what it's worth, Jazzy's is one of the better BBQ restaurants in the Bay Area. Now a Town n' Country institution, Jazzy's was first opened in October 1996 by retired NFL player Johnny Ray Smith, a defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1981 to 1984, along with his wife, Pamela, a former Swashbuckler cheerleader for the Bucs. Their daughter, Jasmine, served as inspiration for the name of the restaurant. The parcel of land behind the restaurant is filled with plenty a real oak wood to burn and the delicious aroma of meat cooking will tempt your taste buds from blocks away. When you do visit, here is what you can always expect. * A friendly staff that tries their hardest to remember the orders of their regulars. * A clean restaurant with plenty of room to space out comfortably. * A visit from the manager on duty to check that everything was good with your meal. I always order the spicy hot BBQ sauce on the side. It is vinegar based and pairs very well with the ribs that I am (apparently) known for. I can confirm that the portions of ribs are not always the same. Sometimes you get an enormous plateful, other times, it seems a little small. That being said, in comparison to their competitors, the prices are much more reasonable and the food is already a notch or two above their nearby chain competitors, so I don't complain much. Have you ever noticed that some BBQ restaurants have bland macaroni and cheese? Jazzy's has, hands down, THE BEST mac and cheese. Pasta and oozing cheddar... get in my belly!! If you are in the area, it is well worth the visit.
