John's of 12th Street has been serving traditional Italian food at the same location for 111 years. Our menu has been showcased on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and we have hosted Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown. John's also boasts a world famous vegan menu.

John's has been an East Village mainstay for over 100 years and our timeless interior has been featured on shows such as The Sopranos and Boardwalk Empire.

In the early days, John's was a meeting place for Italian immigrants and anti-fascists. Early 20th century human rights activist Carlos Tresca was a frequent diner her due to his close friendship with founder John Pucciatti. Lucky Luciano and members of the "organization" he belonged to often dined here.

If you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of real Italy, this restaurant is best suited for you. Authentic Italian cuisine is excellent and healthy. The portions are sized and there is a menu for vegetarians. Meatballs, chicken parm, and, of course, pizza, are delicious. The chef cooks amazing tiramisu that is perfect for sweet lovers.

We have a good dining experience not only because of the food but the great and professional service and charming atmosphere. It’s good that among all there New York crowds you can find the cozy place where you can stop, have a rest and enjoy a simple but hearty meal.

The atmosphere makes John’s a perfect place to eat and bond with friends and family. This place is suitable for celebrating important events, such as birthday party or anniversary. It has a long history, in our rapidly growing world, you can hardly find any other place with such authenticity. Here, you can feel warmth and serenity.

I went here just yesterday with my sister. It was so amazing!!! The food was so delicious and the owner was a sweet heart. Very nice atmosphere and great service. Highly recommend!! They also have a whole vegan menu. My sister is a vegan and LOVED all of it. So amazing that they have that option:)
HOLY MOLY.  When it comes to old school Italian in manhattan, these guys take the cake.. or shall I say, the cannoli! We had a 7pm reservation on a sunday however weren't seated until about 7:45. They were pretty swamped and they're still on the old-school pencil and paper reservation system it seems. We're a pretty laid back bunch so it wasn't a big deal. Staff: - John the owner was such a nice guy and came around socializing with the tables. You can feel his enthusiasm and unbridled passion for his restaurant and for his customers. Thanks John! - Our waiter Leo was incredibly helpful, polite, charming and funny. I get the feeling he might be an actor and/or a model of some sort as he definitely a strong and like-able presence. The ladies at our table were a bit enamored haha. Drinks: We ordered two bottles of the Casal Thaulero Miravigna Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. Food: 5 out of the 7 of us ordered the Vegan Ragu. I sampled a few bites and if I wasn't told it was vegan, I wouldn't have ever guessed it. It was super delicious (not saying most vegan food isn't but you get what I'm saying), hardy, and fresh. I myself ordered the spaghetti and meatballs (what a classsic). The meatballs was huge! I know everyone enjoyed their vegan ragu but I felt like I was the true winner in the best entre battle for the evening (I know it's not a competition... but still.. I won). I sprinkled a little vegan cheese on top and it was perfection. Desert: I've never had an Affogato before so I figured "when in rome"... I mean.. the East Village... and ordered one. Now I'm not an alcoholic but let's just say that I'm glad that 99.99% of bars don't serve up Affogatos.
Our new go to vegan Italian restaurant! We got the vegan meatballs with spaghetti and eggplant Park and they were both delicious! It's hard to find good vegan-friendly Italian food and John's of 12th Street really hit the spot for us.
