I should have read owners responses to critical reviews before going there. This is next level defensive. From our experience:Ambiance was ok, if you are into dacha tables on a parking lot.Food had some Russian touches, but there were more Mexican theme dishes with Russian twist..It was ok. Service was great. Once we placed our order they delivered dishes in a very timely manner Extra 20% labeled as tax is clearly illegal. You can’t just randomly call things tax, unless you plan to remit it back to the tax authorities.Overall I would not recommend. There are other places that do pandemic dining better
I love, love, love the outdoor concept. I felt safe and you could really tell the staff was committed to a good experience. The greeter explains everything on arrival. Everyone is masked except when they are seated at their private tables, which are widely separated. You order online and your food comes on a tray. Plates are one use compostable and you bus yourself. The bus station is clearly marked with directions and has ample hand washing and hand sanitizer stations. They spray down tables between uses. Their cocktails are delicious! As are their pelmeni, russian dumplings. Some of our other food was meh, which is the only reason for not giving 5 stars. The totinos pizza rolls and jalapeño popper chicken kiev were underwhelming. I have eaten at Kachka pre Covid and their food was amazing so I was a bit surprised. Regardless, I would go again for the atmosphere and drinks and to try other menu items that may be better. Such a nice way to get out and still feel safe. I hope other restaurants try this concept. It is more than just being outdoors, they have thoughtfully executed the process and it works well.
It’s not an authentic Ukrainian cousin, not authentic Russian. I get the quarantine and outdoor seating on the parking lot, but why additional 20% charge? Prices are already high as for Portland, like in California. Portions are small like in upscale restaurant, but quality is far from it. Dumplings are just like pelmeni but with dried cherries. They should not be like this at all! It’s my native cousin and I know what I’m talking about. Fajitas with buckwheat and “lavash”, that is in fact just tortilla - you must be kidding me... almost no one in Eastern Europe doesn’t know what is tortillas.
