Hold on, did I say cafe? Well yes, a few years back, Rotor was selected as Brno's finest cafe during Brno's coffee week event (cz: tyden kavy) though I wouldn't quite dare call it a cafe or one of the best cafes either. Of course, you can order coffee too, but their bean of choice is sadly the relatively uninspiring Varesina - a typical Italian dark as night commodity coffee roast. That said, I've noticed they occasionally offer roasts from small artisan roasters so if you're after a cup of delightful espresso and they happen to have the latter, an espresso would be a good choice. Otherwise, probably stick to a cappuccino or similar dairy drink.
I also must admit I've never had anything to eat here even though they do offer breakfast and snacks. Just never occurred to me. The reason I come here ever so often and with good reason, is the liquor and knowledgable barman. If you happen to visit when he is around, you're in luck - that gentleman knows his drinks and is happy to share and guide you. I tend to stick to my whisky which I enjoy even more if that table right next to the entrance is free - a perfect spot to savour my dram.
Recently I've also tried how their Old Fashioned fairs against other bourbon beauties served elsewhere and I wasn't disappointed - divine!
So there you have it. I am rating Rotor Bar primarily as a bar, secondarily as a bar where you can still light up while enjoying your drink, tertiary as an establishment where they play a broad yet great set of music and last but not least: it's got tonnes of helicopter trinkets and a heli blade hanging on the wall - hence the name.
Lovely place and comes highly recommended for a quieter night out on the liquor especially if you smoke or don't mind that you will be smoked ;-)
