Had a great time at Keefer Court's grand opening at the Asia Mall last weekend! Despite a long line, the clean, modern setting and the limited but cozy seating didn't detract from the experience. The bakery's bread items are tasty, and the Southeastern desserts, including Che Bao Mao, are worth trying. Initially skeptical, I was pleasantly surprised by a staff-recommended curry beef bun, although I found the bread-to-filling ratio higher than I'd like, akin to traditional styles but different from Korean bakeries. Keefer Court offers a unique dive into authentic flavors, guided by helpful staff. Worth a visit for those curious about culinary diversity, just keep the bread-to-filling preference in mind. It was a cloudy day in early April (2024) and on a lark we decided to swing by Keefer Court, check it out, see if their opening-week blues had gotten resolved. Yep, it’s great, just like the old West Bank store’s food. We only grabbed 3 items to split - egg custard, sesame mochi ball, and a curry beef bun. Th’ egg custard was lovely, intensely eggy and buttery flakey, delicious and excellent! The deep fried mochi sesame ball was surprisingly great, the inner core of red bean paste was perrrfect, not grainy or beany at all, sweet but not too much, the mochi inners just the right chewiness and tenderness, with a fried and crusty sesame-seed skin really complementing the inner fixings with just the right toasted sesame crunch. Excellent! I thought the curry bun was very good too, at first thinking the curry center was skimpy, but actually pretty generous, even though not noticeably meaty. Good curry beef flavors anyway. The surrounding bun was very fresh and beautifully browned, so overall really very good. Prices were around $4 for each item, a nice price for very good quality food. We hit the place right after a big crowd left at 3PM, and some shelves were empty, but thankfully everything was, as I say, really fresh. They were out of the char siu bao BBQ pork buns, otherwise I would’ve gotten one of those. I was a touch worried that late on a slow Tuesday, stuff would have gotten stale, but nope, we were very happy. Didn’t wait around to see the shelves get restocked, wish I had more time.
