Our group loved La Coqueta so much we ate here twice on our short trip. It was a fun and colorful outdoor restaurant with a great vibe. I had the shrimp tacos with mango and tamarindo sauce and was in taco heaven, they were a great mix of sweet and savory and the perfect first and last meal in Tulum. Other group favorites were the fajitas and beef tacos.
I had bookmarked this location for our recent trip to Talum based on the reviews. La Coqueta is located in "En Pueblo" or in town and not the resort or hotel area and is easily accessible from the main hot spots in town and minutes from the Beach. We arrived for lunch and didn't have to really wait we were the only ones in the restaurant which is outside seating only. We ordered a pair of Modelo beers and I went with the nachos and my girlfriend went with the chicken nachos. Her tachos were tasty, good soft warm tortilla, fresh avocado and the chicken was on point. The tacos were good, but nothing you can't have in the states. I was not impressed with the nachos, the beans didn't have much flavor, kinda bland like canned beans. What did it for me was the cheese, they literally took square sized slices of cheese and put several of them on top of the dish. The way it was melted it looked like they put the dish in the microwave prior to serving it. The taste was nothing special, tasted like pub food rather than an authentic taco shop. The service was good and the server was attentive and the food wasn't expensive at all. However, I do plan on going back to Talum but I won't be back to this location.
Great food, great service!
