First and foremost, La Folie Lab is so limited in space when compared to restaurants in Bangalore. Granted real estate in Mumbai comes at a premium price but it would be wise of them to invest in an interior decorator who could revamp the space. The seating is predominantly wooden tables and chairs which is not very comfortable if your gluteus maximus is ageing. It's like they don't want you to get too comfortable. The decor really didn't have anything for me to write home about.
The menu is better- providing a limited fare of options to choose from but each offering on the menu if chosen wisely is unique. Yoga girl and I opted for the plates- where I had the market fish with couscous and she the prawns in laksa sauce with black rice. We started our conversations with lemonade which was a bit too sour so we watered them out.
Service took about 20 minutes and for the record, La Folie Lab scores BIG when it comes to presentation. Presented on stoneware bowls, trays, and plates with Masterchef style plating, you'll be eating out of those portions with glee. Portion size is good and the price is on the higher side when you're paying for premium ingredients. My friend loved her rice plate and while my fish had an interesting coating of almonds, my only bone of contention were the pieces of cucumber in my couscous. They could have been shredded instead of cubed or rather shouldn't have been there in the first place.
We also decided to have dessert which was a blood orange and grape fruit tiered dessert that was so pretty, we both agreed it looked better than our own wedding cakes. It tasted pretty good too. The other one had a sweet fruit jam center whose name I can't recall. It was a tad too sweet for my liking but it would have nailed the spot for any sweet tooth.
Our meal for two came to about INR 2300 including service charges which works out to INR 1250 a head. Come here if you want a date to SPEND on you and you want a fancy meal. This makes for a good stopover to grab a cuppa but I'd prefer if they did something about the seating arrangement and upholstered the chairs with cushions.
